Murray Spivack technique

Murray Spivack was a Russian- born American sound engineer. He was also a drum teacher who’s students included Louie Bellson, Joe Morello, David Garibaldi, Phil Maturano, Josh Freese, Vinnie Colaiuta, Chuck Silverman, Chad Wackerman, Ed Shaughnessy and many more.

Some years ago at his masterclass the drummer Phil Maturano (he also studied with Murray) spoke about Spivack technique,i had never heard this before, it was very interesting and caught my curiosity

…recently my drum teacher spoke to me about this technique, explaining the fundamentals, the grip and after introducing a series of exercises playing at very slow metronome speed (40 bpm) the stick control (pg.5, 6, 7) focusing on my grip and my movements…i’ve noticed great progress in my technique.

If you are interested and you wanna understand the grip and the movements check out this DVD/eBook:
